Italian: '''Riviera''' (pronounced as /it/) is an Italian word which means,[1] [2] ultimately derived from Latin Latin: rīpa, through Ligurian rivêa.[3] It came to be applied as a proper name to the coast of Liguria, in the form Italian: [[Italian Riviera|Riviera ligure]], then shortened in English.
