Rosh mesivta explained
The title rosh mesivta (alt. rosh metivta;[1] Hebrew: ראש מתיבתא; from Jewish Babylonian Aramaic rêsh mṯivtā ריש מתיבתא), abbreviated as Ram (Hebrew: ר״מ),[2] [3] is a term in Jewish education for a leading figure in an educational institution. The term has a long history, going back many centuries.[4]
The role is comparable to a dean in a university.[5] Just as a chancellor outranks a dean,[6] a rosh yeshiva, when both exist, is higher.[7] [8]
