List of Aedes species explained

The mosquito genus Aedes encompasses over 900 species and several subgenera that are found in tropical and subtropical zones, but also on all continents except Antarctica. Some of the most well-known species include Aedes aegypti, A. albopictus, and A. japonicus. Aedes mosquitoes are known to carry a variety of pathogens, including dengue, Zika, and chikungunya viruses. Many of these species are also known to bite humans and can transmit diseases through their bites. The subgenera within Aedes include Stegomyia, Ochlerotatus, Finlaya, and Diceromyia. Overall, Aedes mosquitoes pose a significant threat to public health and disease prevention efforts must be taken seriously to combat their spread.
