The Launceston Tornadoes are an Australian basketball team based in Launceston, Tasmania. The Tornadoes compete in the Women's NBL1 South and play their home games at Elphin Sports Centre.[1] For sponsorship reasons, they are known as the Buckby Motors Launceston Tornadoes.

Team history

The Launceston Tornadoes Basketball Club Inc was established in 1993.[2] The Tornadoes women's basketball team debuted in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) in 1994.[3] [4] In their second season, the Tornadoes won the 1995 SEABL championship.[5] [6] [7] They went on to win the 1995 ABA National championship.[8] [9] [10] [11] In 1996, the Tornadoes finished as ABA National runners-up.

In 2010 and 2018, the Tornadoes finished as SEABL runners-up.[12] [13]

In 2019, following the demise of the SEABL, the Tornadoes joined the NBL1 South.[14]
