jschlatt (born 1999),[1] [2] also known popularly as Schlatt, is an American YouTuber, Twitch streamer, entrepreneur, podcaster, and singer. He is best known for his variety of online content: including gaming, vlogging, reactions, skits, and music covers.[3] Schlatt is the current owner of GamerSupps, an energy supplement company aimed at gamers,[4] and a former co-owner of One True King, an online content organization.[5]

As of September 2024, Schlatt has a combined following of over 10 million subscribers on YouTube and nearly 3 million combined followers on Twitch, making him one of the most-followed creators from New York.

Internet career

2013–2018: Beginnings

Schlatt began creating YouTube videos in 2013, recording Call of Duty gameplay videos alongside his acquaintances at the time.[6] In July of 2013, the original jschlatt channel was created, with his first video being uploaded the following year. His content primarily consisted of video essays covering various topics of interest, including astronomy, technology, music, and gaming. On February 6, 2018, Schlatt uploaded a video titled "elon r u ok", which would go on to become his most viewed video, and helped catalyse his career.[7]

He did not reveal his face until the climax of his SMPLive series, after defeating the final boss of Minecraft, in a video uploaded to his channel on September 26, 2019.[8]

2018–present: Streaming & OTK

Schlatt began streaming in June of 2018, playing a variety of different games,[9] notably and Minecraft. On March 1, 2019, Schlatt joined SMPLive, a Minecraft server, which surged his internet presence, gaining him hundreds of thousands of new followers and subscribers.[10] [11]

From December 2019, Schlatt went on an unannounced hiatus from streaming[12] which ended on December 16, 2021 with the release of his video titled "i'm quitting youtube", in which he announced his return to streaming.[13] [14]

In 2021, Schlatt joined online content organization One True King as a co-owner, appearing in various videos and livestreams hosted by the organization.[15] He would leave the company in 2022 to pursue personal goals.[16]

Other ventures

Music career

On September 28, 2022, Schlatt and Ludwig Ahgren created the YouTube channel Lud and Schlatts Musical Emporium, a collaborative project aimed at providing royalty-free recordings of famous classical compositions, as well as original, Nintendo-inspired music for use in content creation.[17] [18] [19]

On December 15, 2023, Schlatt released a cover of Frank Sinatra's "My Way" in response to several artificial intelligence-created song covers that used his voice as well as other parts of his likeness.[20] [21] The cover was later removed by Universal Music Group for alleged copyright infringement.[22]

On November 7, 2024, Schlatt released a cover of the Christmas song "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" and announced the beginning of work on his debut Christmas album A Very 1999 Christmas.[23] The album was created with the help of saxophonist Tom Scott, a former member of The Blues Brothers, to arrange the music sheets. The full album was recorded at The Sound Factory in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Following the worldwide blocking of the cover on YouTube, Schlatt released his second single, "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!", on November 21, 2024.[24] [25] The album officially released on December 1, 2024. The album includes Schlatt's first two singles, as well as six other classic Christmas songs.[26]

Podcasts

Schlatt has hosted a number of online and in-person podcasts throughout his career, most notably Chuckle Sandwich, with Ted Nivison[27], and Slimecicle (formerly)[28], and Did Schlatt Win? (stylized in all caps), with a rotating cast of guests. The YouTuber's only current active podcast is Sleep Deprived, with co-hosts Apandah, Mikasacus, and Aztrosist. As of December 2024, the podcast has new episodes available only on Patreon[29] . The YouTube channel that previously hosted newly-released Sleep Deprived podcast episodes is now focused on uploading non-podcast gaming content with the hosts.[30]
