Hipparchus (cavalry officer) explained

Hipparchus, anglicized hipparch (ἵππαρχος|hipparchos), was the title of an ancient Greek cavalry officer, commanding a hipparchia (unit of about 500 horsemen); two such units were commanded by an epihipparchos.^[1]
