The systematic name of this enzyme class is meso-2,6-diaminoheptanedioate:NADP+ oxidoreductase (deaminating). Other names in common use include meso-alpha,epsilon-diaminopimelate dehydrogenase, and meso-diaminopimelate dehydrogenase. This enzyme participates in lysine biosynthesis.
