The Zeekr 001 (Chinese: 极氪001|p=Jíkè 001|s=极氪 001) is the first electric vehicle of the Zeekr brand, owned by Geely Automobile Holdings. The vehicle was originally previewed as the Lynk & Co Zero Concept[1] and revealed in 2020 at the Beijing Auto Show,[2] but in October 2021 it was instead released in China as the Zeekr 001[3] and is scheduled for release in Europe in 2023.[4]
The Zeekr 001 claims to be the world's first mass-produced EV shooting brake.[5]
The production 001 was presented on 16 April 2021 at the Auto Shanghai and launched in October 2021 in the Mainland Chinese market.[6] Its shooting brake design is similar to the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo and it features a similar front end to that of the Lynk & Co 05, a model from another brand in the Geely Automobile Holdings group of companies and maybe not a coincidence, as the 001 model was developed by Swedish CEVT as Lynk & Co Zero Concept.
The 001 is based on the Sustainable Experience Architecture platform specific to the electric models of the Geely group.[7]
The top of the trim variant of the 001 has electric motors on both the front and rear axle, putting out a combined output of 536hp and 700abbr=onNaNabbr=on of torque and can propel the 001 from 0–100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.8 seconds, speed max over 2000NaN0, 30 minutes maximum power output is equal 177hp.[8] Zeekr is claiming that the 001 can run on a full charge for up to 7000NaN0, and its charging setup will give it 120km (80miles) worth of power in just five minutes of charging time.[9] A special model limited to 1,000 units will be sold in 2023 with the CATL Qilin battery containing 140 kWh to allow up to 10000NaN0 of range.[10]
In January 2023, the upgraded 2023 model Zeekr 001 has been announced. The 2023 model replaced the Japanese Denso motors with Chinese Vremt motors. Vremt (Viridi E-Mobility Technology) is a subsidiary of Zeekr's parent company Geely.[11] [12] Upgraded Zeekr 001 offers an option for 140kWh CATL Qilin batteries, with a maximum range that can exceed 1,000 kilometers. [13]
In February 2024, the Zeekr 001 received a major update, with the exterior following the style of the 001 FR performance variant unveiled months ago. The interior system features the Zeekr OS 6.0 system, a 15.05 inch 2.5K OLED centre screen and a 35.5 inch AR-HUD. The platform now supports 800V high voltage charging system with battery options including a 95kWh and 100kWh battery. Ranges could go up to 675km, 705km, and 750km based on different trim levels.[14] The model was shown to reach 546 kW charging speed at a Zeekr V3 Supercharger.[15]
In August 2024, after only six months of the release of 2024 model, Zeekr launched the 2025 model, with the upgrade of Geely's own Haohan Smart Driving 2.0 system, which significantly enhances the autonomous driving capabilities. The hardware of Haohan Smart Driving 2.0 consists of 1 lidar, 12 high-definition cameras, 5 millimeter wave radars and 12 ultrasonic radars. The autonomous driving chip is upgraded from the dual EyeQ5H of Mobileye, which has only 48Tops of computing power, to dual Nvidia OrinX, which has 508Tops of computing power.[16]
Due to the extremely frequent vehicle model changes, almost three times facelift within one year, the 2025 model launch has triggered strong protests from existing car owners. Pressured by the fierce protests, comment function in the live stream room of the new model launch conference were banned throughout the process.[17] Some owners broke into the Zeekr's headquarter for protest, asking for compensation.[18] Zeekr declined the owners' request to switch to new the Haohan system, said the Haohan and Mobileye's solution adopts different hardware layout in terms of chips, system control, and wiring layout, which is impossible to get a hardware upgrade, but the old Mobileye's system would continue to be updated.[19] [20]
In September 2023, Zeekr announced a limited performance edition, 001 FR (Future Road), featuring quad electric motors that could deliver 1248hp in total, as well as track-level brakes and suspensions, carbon fibre parts and a "tank turn" mode.[21] It would be built on 800V platform with a 100 kWh CATL Qilin battery. Zeekr planned to deliver 99 vehicles per month.[22]
2,012 units were sold in more than 150 cities across China during the first full month of production in November 2021, with 199 additional units during October 2021. The company stated its plan to ramp up production during 2022 with a target of 70,000 vehicles,[23] and continuing to prioritize local market customers ahead of a global roll-out in 2023.
Zeekr 001 has set two world records.[24] The first one was for the fastest drift by an electric car, at 208 km/h.[25] [26] The second world record was for the fastest slalom by an EV with 50 cones in 49.05 seconds.[27]
