Sedato (Persian: italics=yes|صداتو; English: italics=yes|Your voice)[1] is an Iranian television mystery music game show series based on the South Korean programme I Can See Your Voice.[2] Also as the first adaptation to entirely broadcast through a streaming television service, it aired on from 31 May 2023[3] to 4 July 2024, for two seasons.
Presented with a group of six "mystery singers" identified only by their occupation, a contestant must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group without ever hearing them sing, assisted by clues and a celebrity panel over the course of four rounds. At the end of the game, the last remaining mystery singer is revealed as either good or bad by means of performing itself, depending on contestant's choice.
The contestant must eliminate one mystery singer at the end of each round, receiving a petty cash if they eliminate a bad singer. At the end of the game, the contestant may either end the game and keep the money they had won in previous rounds, or risk it for a chance to win a main prize by correctly guessing whether the last remaining mystery singer is good or bad.[4]
Each mystery singer performs a lip sync to a song; good singers mime to a recording of their own, while bad singers mime to a recording by someone else. At the conclusion of performances, the contestant eliminates one mystery singer from each group.
The contestant is presented with a video package containing possible clues by one of the mystery singers.
The contestant is presented with video from a recording session by one of the mystery singers, but pitch-shifted to obscure their actual vocals.
The contestant may ask questions to the remaining mystery singers. Good singers are required to give truthful responses, while the bad singers must lie.
formally acquired the rights to produce a local adaptation of I Can See Your Voice in Iran in May 2023.[5]
The show's title Sedato (Persian: italics=yes|صداتو; English: italics=yes|Your voice) comes from a shortened name of its full title I Can See Your Voice (Persian: italics=yes|من میتونم صداتو ببینم|translit=Man mí-tunam sedato bebinam).[1]
Sedato debuted on 31 May 2023. During its first season airings preempted in observance of Muharram,[6] the series was already renewed for a second season[7] that premiered on 21 March 2024.[8] Also, the same season finale that initially scheduled for 6 September 2023, was delayed in a possible relation to the first death anniversary of Mahsa Amini;[9] [10] it formally aired on 20 September 2023.[11] As per statement by panelist Shabnam Moghaddami in July 2024, the series was renewed for a third season.[12] [13]
In the second season, actor and director Javad Hashemi played as a contestant in his "appreciation day" with a duet performance by returning good singer Ali Ayaz Khani on 11 April 2024,[14] [15] followed by musician in the pairs special with Sadegh Nikokalam and a special appearance by football player and coach Ali Parvin on 9 May 2024,[16] [17] actor in a Tribute to the Luti People special with Hassan Zafar and a brief appearance by Kiaei's daughter Roza[18] on 20 June 2024,[19] [20] and poet Mohammad Ghadimi in the Musical Geniuses special with Reza Khatamian on 27 June 2024.
