Young Jin Cho is bishop emeritus of the Global Methodist Church. On June 19, 2023 he joined as a clergy member of the Global Methodist Church and was conferred the title bishop emeritus.[1] He retired from the United Methodist Church in 2016.
While active in the United Methodist Church, he was elected bishop of the Southeastern Jurisdiction and appointed to the Richmond Episcopal Area, at the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference held July 18–20, 2012, in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina. He is the first Korean-American elected to the episcopacy in the Southeastern Jurisdiction.[2]
Cho received his Th.B. and Th.M. from the Methodist Theological Seminary in Seoul, South Korea, and his M.Div. and D.Min. from the Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC.
Cho married Kiok Chang on May 19, 1975, in Seoul, South Korea. They have three children together: Grace, Sophia, and Chris.
Bishop Cho was born in South Korea and graduated from the Methodist Theological Seminary in Seoul. He came to the United States in 1979 and earned his Master and Doctor of Divinity degrees from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D. C. He was ordained in the East Annual Conference of the Korean Methodist Church in 1977 and transferred to the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1983.[3]
