Yahya Qasim Sare'e (Arabic: يحيى قاسم سريع ) is a brigadier general and military spokesperson since 2018 for the Yemeni Armed Forces (SPC), an offshoot closely related with the Houthi movement (or more formally Ansar Allah.) He frequently appears in military statements made by the Yemeni Armed Forces most notably on the attacks targeting Israel-linked vessels passing through the Red Sea and Bab-el-Mandeb Strait. His statements are broadcast primarily via Al-Masirah TV, his Telegram channel, and his Twitter account, which was established on January 15, 2021.[2]
Yahya Sare'e was born in the year 1970 in Saada governorate, adjacent to the southern Saudi border.[3] He earned a bachelor's and master's degree in political science and has also taken combat, security, administrative, and specialised courses in military science.
In 2017, he was appointed head of the Psychological Warfare Division in Moral Guidance of the Yemeni Armed Forces. Also in the same year, he was promoted to the rank of Colonel.
In mid-2018, he was appointed the Director of the Moral Guidance Department of the Yemeni Armed Forces, and was subsequently promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. On 17 October 2018, he was appointed as the official spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces, succeeding Brigadier General Sharaf Luqman.[4]
On 3 May 2024, Yahya Sare'e announced in a televised speech that 'we will target any ships heading to Israeli ports in the Mediterranean Sea in any area we are able to reach.'[5]
