The Xiaomi SU7 (pronounced " seven" or in Chinese)[2] [3] is a battery electric full-size sedan developed by Chinese company Xiaomi Auto, a subsidiary of the Chinese consumer electronics company Xiaomi. It is the first Xiaomi vehicle, and is manufactured under contract by BAIC Off-road in Beijing. It was announced in December 2023. The car was officially released on 28 March 2024 in Beijing, with Xiaomi starting to take orders for the car on that day.[4]
According to Xiaomi, 'SU' stands for 'Speed Ultra',[5] [6] and the number 7 indicates the car's market segment.[7] 'SU' may also be a reference to the Chinese word Chinese: 速, meaning 'speed'. The SU7 is available in four versions, namely the SU7, SU7 Pro, SU7 Max and SU7 Ultra.[8]
Xiaomi announced its intent to enter the electric vehicle market in March 2021. Xiaomi Founder and CEO Lei Jun claimed the company would invest 10 billion yuan (US$1.4 billion) into the project. Xiaomi Automobile was established in 2021, based in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. The company received a permit to produce vehicles from China's National Development and Reform Commission in August 2023.[9] [10]
Production of the SU7 started in December 2023. It was introduced on 28 December 2023.[11] The retail price is announced on 28 March 2024, which the standard version costs CNY 215,900 yuan (US$30,408), while Pro and Max version costs 245,900 yuan and 299,900 yuan.[12]
The SU7 was developed under codename MS11.[13] The design team was led by chief designer Li Tianyuan, who was poached from BMW. According to Lei Jun, he rejected three design proposals due to durability concerns. Xiaomi benchmarked the car against the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S.[14]
The sedan is equipped with air suspension with adaptive dampers, an active shutter grille and an active rear wing with four adjustment levels. The company claims the drag coefficient of the SU7 is the world's lowest at 0.195.
The SU7 is equipped with a 16.1-inch touchscreen infotainment center with 3K resolution. The infotainment system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 system-on-chip (SoC) and based on the Xiaomi HyperOS (小米澎湃OS) software. A driver-assistance system branded Xiaomi Pilot with 16 functions is standard. It uses Nvidia Drive Orin system SoCs.
The SU7 uses many international suppliers for its parts, including Bosch, Brembo, Continental, ThyssenKrupp, ZF Friedrichshafen, Benteler, Schaeffler Group and Nexteer Automotive,[15] [16] [17] and supports Apple's Car Play to interact with the iPad.[18]
The SU7 is built on an 800-volt electrical architecture with a maximum of 871 volts. The company markets the electric motors used by the SU7 as the "HyperEngine V6 Series". The base SU7 with rear-wheel drive has a single motor with a power rating of 2200NaN0 and 4000NaN0. The all-wheel drive SU7 Max powertrain consists of a front motor outputting 2200NaN0 and 3380NaN0 and a rear motor generating 2750NaN0 and 5000NaN0 of torque, for a total of 4950NaN0 and 8380NaN0.
The SU7 Max uses a 101 kWh NMC battery which runs at 800V and is produced by CATL and branded as Qilin, mounted in a cell-to-pack format. The base, rear-wheel drive SU7 uses a smaller 73.6 kWh LFP battery operating at 400V. Xiaomi also plans to release versions with 132 kWh and 150 kWh batteries.[19] [20] According to Xiaomi, the base SU7 is able to accelerate from NaN0NaN0 in 5.28 seconds, while the SU7 Max goes from NaN0NaN0 in 2.78 seconds.[21] Speed is limited to 2100NaN0 for the base model, and 2650NaN0 for the SU7 Max.
On October 29, 2024, Xiaomi announced the high-performance variant, the SU7 Ultra. The base trim would be priced at 814,900 yuan (114,200 USD) and would be officially released in March 2025. Xiaomi positions SU7 Ultra as a road-legal four-door racing car.[22] [23]
The SU7 Ultra is powered by three electric motors developed by Xiaomi, two named HyperEngine V8s and one HyperEngine V6s, which reaches a combined power output of 11380NaN0 and total torque of 17700NaN0. The two V8s motors output 4250NaN0 and 6350NaN0 of torque each, and the V6s motor also found in the SU7 Max outputs 2750NaN0 and 4000NaN0 of torque. The HyperEngine V8s has a maximum speed of 27200rpm, while the V6s can go up to 21000rpm.
The SU7 Ultra can accelerate from 0 to in 1.98 seconds and from 0 to in 5.96 seconds, runs the 1/4 mile in 9.23 seconds, and has a top speed of .[24] It is equipped with a carbon ceramic brake system, with NaNmm disks and six-piston Akebono calipers in the front, and NaNmm disks and four piston calipers in the rear, allowing for a NaNkm/h stopping distance of 30.8m (101feet). The CATL Qilin II battery pack operates at 900V and has a maximum peak output 1330kW and 800kW at 20% charge, and can be charged at a rate up to 490 kW (5.2C).[25]
On October 28, 2024, the SU7 Ultra prototype achieved the official lap record for a four-door car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife at 6:46.874.[26] The prototype was fitted with a carbon fiber body and lacked a fully finished interior, resulting in a weight of 1900kg (4,200lb).

Xiaomi targeted 100,000 deliveries in 2024 and had 70,000 orders by April of 2024.[28] By mid-2024, Xiaomi became the 8th largest automotive startup in China, measured by sales quantity.[29] [30] Since the launch of SU7 in March 2024, Xiaomi has rolled out 100,000 units of the model by November 2024, a short 230 days gap. This announcement was made public by its Chief Executive Officer, Lei Jun through his social media account.[31]
