World of Volvo is an experience center owned by Volvo Cars and Volvo Group, located in Gothenburg. The site was previously home to Saab's gearbox factory.

Background

In the late 2010s, Volvo announced its ambition to create a new experience center located in central Gothenburg. In January 2020, the European Commission approved the plans by Volvo Cars and AB Volvo for what was then described as an "experience park."[1] The inauguration took place on April 14, 2024, on Volvo's 97th anniversary.[2]

The Building

World of Volvo is constructed with wood and glass atop a parking garage. The building, which covers 22,000 square meters, was designed by the Danish architecture firm Henning Larsen. The structural framework is composed of glulam beams and cross-laminated timber. The parking garage has 1,500 spaces and is owned by Göteborgs Stads Parkering AB. The building has five floors, and its design theme is based on the Scandinavian concept of "allemansrätten," which evokes elements of Scandinavian nature.

World of Volvo, inaugurated on April 14, 2024, includes the Volvo Exhibition, spanning 4,500 square meters, and an event hall for lectures, concerts, and meetings. The event hall can accommodate 600 seated or 1,000 standing guests. Additionally, the building features a conference center on the top floor, two restaurants, a Volvo lounge, a Volvo shop, rooftop terraces, and a hall for art or car exhibitions. The restaurants are operated by Götaplatsgruppen and Stefan Karlsson.[3]
