Who Is the Millionaire (Vietnamese: Ai Là Triệu Phú) is a Vietnamese game show based on the original British format of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. The show was hosted by Lại Văn Sâm from its debut until 2017, Phan Đăng from 2018 to 2020, and Đinh Tiến Dũng from 2021 onward. The main goal of the game is to win the top prize (50,000,000₫ in 2005; 100,000,000₫ from 2005 to 2007; 120,000,000₫ from 2007 to 2012; 150,000,000₫ from 2012 to 2021 and 250,000,000₫ from 2022 onward) by answering 15 multiple-choice questions correctly. There are four lifelines – 50:50, Phone a Friend, Plus One (first appeared in 2020) and Ask Two Experts (can be used after the fifth question, first appeared in 2020). Ai là triệu phú? began broadcasting on January 4, 2005.[1]
It is shown on the Vietnamese TV station VTV3 on every Tuesday at 8:00 PM (from 2005 to 2016 and on January 31, 2017) and 8:30 PM (from January 3-24, 2017 and from February 7, 2017 onward) (UTC+7).
From September 2010 to June 2011, the game show Who Is the Millionaire had a new version called Who Is the Millionaire - Hot Seat.[2] [3] [4] This version was based on the Australian game show Millionaire Hot Seat. The rules of the game were the same as the original Australian version (from 2009 to 2016).[5] [6] [7]
This version had some high-scoring players, such as Le Van Tuan (80 million VND, April 12, 2011).[8] However, the show returned to its original format on July 5, 2011 after receiving feedback from viewers.[9] [10]
At first, the Who Is the Millionaire show had a black interface similar to the international version, with a small question frame. From May 2008, the show switched to the Australian interface with a more modern blue color. From July 2011, the show used the Norwegian interface.[11]
From June 2013: The question frame was smaller due to VTV3 switching to a widescreen format. Previously, in 2010 and 2011, when the show was called Ghe nong, the question frame was also smaller, even though VTV3 was still using a standard screen format. At the end of 2014, Who Is the Millionaire switched to a new, more beautiful and easier-to-see blue interface. This interface is similar to the Polish version in 2017 and the South American countries before 2017.
In 2021, Who Is the Millionaire switched to a new, more modern interface.[12] [13] This interface was inspired by the design of Olga van den Brandt (Netherlands) and the UK version (question image, assistance clock). The question frame was expanded to full screen, making it easier for players to see.
Initially, the show was filmed at the Gia Lam Gymnasium.[14] [15] [16] The show then moved to Studio S10,[17] [18] and finally to Studio S16 of Vietnam Television.[19]
