Wadi Shis or Wadi Shees is a wadi, a seasonal watercourse, in the Hajar Mountains of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The wadi passes through the mountain village of Shis, before making its way through the Omani exclave of Madha, the Emirati exclave of Nahwa (part of Sharjah), through Madha again and down to the east coast.[1]
Like many of the wadis of the Hajar Mountains, Shis can be dangerous during and following periods of rain and in 2020 four UAE nationals lost their cars to flash-floods in the wadi.[2]
The village is the site of an integrated recreation facility, constructed to highlight the natural beauty of the area.[3] It was opened in October 2020.[4] Between the area's natural microclimate and the investment from the Government of Sharjah, Wadi Shis is establishing itself as a great day trip for tourists.[5] The Nahwa Cave is located along this watercourse (Wadi). Al Nahwa Cave is notable for its complex borders. Oman to the east and the UAE to the west. Within this area, Mahda, an Omani enclave in the UAE, is located, and Mahda is located within Nahwa, an UAE enclave in Oman.the west. Within this region lies Mahdha, an Omani enclave within the UAE, and inside Mahdha is Nahwa, a UAE enclave within Oman[6]
