The Votkinsk Hydroelectric Station (Russian: Воткинская ГЭС) is a dam and hydroelectric power station on the Kama River along the border of Perm Krai and Udmurtia, Russia. It is 300NaN0 south of Votkinsk and its main purpose is power generation and navigation. The power station has a 1,100 MW installed capacity and the dam also supports a ship lift. Construction on the dam began in 1955, the first generator was operational in 1961 and the last in 1963. The entire project was complete in 1965.
The dam has a maximum height of 340NaN0 and a length of 47900NaN0. It is composed of a combined 3650NaN0 long concrete power station and 1910NaN0 long spillway section which are both flanked by the embankment dam portion. The embankment portion of the dam contains 208990000NaN0 of soil and 8844000NaN0 of rock, drainage and filter placement. The concrete structures of the dam, namely the spillway and power station comprise 12366000NaN0.[3]
The power station is 2690NaN0 long, 22.50NaN0 wide and 28.30NaN0 high. It contains 10 Kaplan turbine-generators. There are six transformers ranging from 110-500 kV.[3]
Votkinsk Reservoir holds 94000000000NaN0 of water of which 37000000000NaN0 is active or "useful" capacity. The reservoir's catchment or drainage area is 1840000NaN0 while its surface area is 11200NaN0 and its maximum depth is 280NaN0. It is 3650NaN0 long and a maximum 100NaN0 wide.[3]
