Victoria Scalisi (1964 – August 2, 2017) was an American punk, sludge, and heavy metal vocalist and artist from Savannah, Georgia.
Scalisi was known for her work as the vocalist with the heavy metal / punk band DAMAD.[1] DAMAD was an underground band established in the early 1990s. It helped establish a distinctive punk/hardcore style of metal music in Savannah, which had an outsized influence on future bands such as Mastodon, Baroness, and Black Tusk.[2] Members of DAMAD went on to form the bands Kylesa and Karst.[3] Scalisi is considered to be one the first women to utilize an intense guttural screaming vocal style. During the time of her cancer diagnosis, she announced the formation of a new project called Lies in Stone.
Victoria Scalisi's artistic prowess was not limited to her vocal abilities. She lent her creative touch to the artwork and layout design of DAMAD albums, including Rise and Fall and Centric. Her talent extended beyond her own band, as she also created the cover art for the album Serenity Through Pain by the band Phobia. Her contributions to the visual aspect of the music were as impactful as her vocal performances, showcasing her multifaceted talent and dedication to her craft.[4]
Scalisi died on August 2, 2017, at the age of 53 from colorectal cancer.
