Vashkivtsi (pronounced as /uk/; Romanian; Moldavian; Moldovan: Vășcăuți; German: Waschkautz;) is a city in Vyzhnytsia Raion of Chernivtsi Oblast (province) of Ukraine. It is located in the historical region of Bukovina. It hosts the administration of Vashkivtsi urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine.[1] Population:
One village is administered by the town, Voloka (Ukrainian: Волока, Romanian; Moldavian; Moldovan: Voloca).
The name of the town comes from the personal name Vas'ko. The first written mention of Vashkivtsi dates back to the 15th century, in the 1430s.[2]
Settlement established in 1903 as Waskoutz am Czeremosz within the Austro-Hungarian Duchy of Bukovina.
In January 1989, the population was 5811 people.[6]
In January 2013, the population was 5406 people.[7]
