The Utukok River (Iñupiaq: Utuqqaq) is a 225miles long stream in the North Slope Borough of the U.S. state of Alaska.[1] It rises in the De Long Mountains at the confluence of Kogruk and Tupik creeks and flows north, northeast, and then northwest.[3] It empties into Kasegaluk Lagoon on the Chukchi Sea of the Arctic Ocean, 20miles southwest of Icy Cape.[3] It is the breeding ground for Arctic caribou and various birds.[4]
Utuqqaq, meaning old or ancient, is the Inuit name for Icy Cape.[3] Variant names used for the river in the 19th century included "Utukak" and "Ootokok".[3]
