Notes

  1. About.com, The History of the Olympics: 1908 - London, England
  2. Carpenter was controversially disqualified for alleged interference in the first running of the final, with the officials ordering a second running. Taylor and Robbins were eligible to run, but refused in protest against the exclusion of Carpenter.
  3. The 3 mile team race used a point-for-place system with only the top three runners from each 5-man team counting. The International Olympic Committee only considers those three (Eisele, Bonhag, and Trube for the United States) to be medallists.
