Tuz is an endorheic lake part of the Irtysh basin. It lies in a tectonic depression at the southern end of the Kulunda Plain. Lake Shoshkaly stretches 2.6km (01.6miles) to the southeast, Sharbakty 24km (15miles) to the WNW, Malybay 34km (21miles) to the NNW, Sormoildy 35km (22miles) to the ENE, and lake Tengizsor 10km (10miles) to the south.
