Turag Commuter, formerly Turag Express, is a local train in Bangladesh operated by Bangladesh Railway. It runs from in Dhaka to in Gazipur. Earlier this train used to run from Joydebpur station to in Narayanganj. The specialty of this train is that it has a reserved coach for women.
In 2012 it was decided to increase the number of trains by 2 more.[1]
According to the 2014 report, this train is most popular among passengers as it takes less time to reach Dhaka from Gazipur than the N3 highway.[2]
It was earlier an express train. It was converted into a commuter train on 21 October 2023 as decided by the authorities.[3]
Incidents
- On February 5, 2015, some miscreants set fire to two coaches of the Jaydebpur-bound train as it reached the station. At this time, a miscreant was caught by the passengers while escaping from the train. No one was injured in this incident.[4]
- On March 1, 2016, the Turag train arrived at Joydebpur station around 7:30 a.m. and stopped on line No. 3. At that time, the Dhaka-bound Hirtyan Express was waiting to leave on line number two. At this time, the train turned around to change the locomotive and went to the number two line and pushed hard behind the fast express. At least five passengers were injured as two wheels of the rear coach of the train derailed. And a child was killed on the rail of the Turag loco.[5]
- On January 17, 2024, the train derailed while going from Gazipur to Dhaka.[6]
- On 23 May 2024, a coach of the train derailed in Dhirashram area while it was going to Dhaka. No casualties were reported in the incident.[7]
