Raymontre Palmer (born April 2, 2001) is an American football wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at LSU and Nebraska. He was selected by the Buccaneers in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft.
Palmer attended Kentwood High Magnet School in Kentwood, Louisiana.[1] He played wide receiver and safety in high school. He committed to Louisiana State University (LSU) to play college football.[2] [3] [4]
Palmer played at LSU from 2019 to 2021.[5] In three years he had 41 receptions for 458 yards and three touchdowns over 28 games.[6] He transferred to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2022.[7] [8] [9] While at the University of Nebraska, Trey Palmer set the single-season receiving yards record at 1,043 and did so in his final game against Iowa where he caught nine passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns (87 & 18 yards). Additionally, he also set Nebraska's reception by a wide receiver record at 71. Against Purdue, he had a record breaking game where he caught seven passes for a staggering 237 yards & two touchdowns. Interestingly, this marked only the third 200 yard receiving game in Nebraska history as he finished the game with 297 all purpose yards. This performance led to Palmer becoming the first player (since 2000) to have 225 receiving yards and 50 rushing yards in the same game.[10]
Palmer's performance was awarded with being recognized as a second-team All-Big Ten selection by the league media and a third-team pick by the conference coaches.
Palmer was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round with the 191st overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.[11] In his NFL debut in Week 1, he scored a receiving touchdown in the 20–17 win over the Vikings.[12] He finished with 39 receptions for 385 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie.[13] In the Wild Card Round victory over the Eagles, Palmer scored his first postseason touchdown on a 56-yard reception.[14]
