Tinteán Explained

Tinteán is an online Australian magazine of Irish interest. Its declared objective is “to build and nurture the Australian Irish identity and explore social, cultural, political and religious issues of interest to the Australian-Irish subculture as well as the Irish diaspora in Australia”.[1]

The title derives from a word in the Irish language meaning “fireplace, hearth”.[2]

Tinteán was established by the Australian Irish Heritage Network, which published printed issues of the magazine before turning to an online version. Its contributions deal with the Irish heritage in Australia, including the themes of exile and settlement, and it also pays attention to the evolving political and economic situation in Ireland.[1]

The literary content includes poetry in English and Irish and reviews of books of Irish interest.
