Thiranagama is a village in the southwestern Galle District of Sri Lanka,[2] known for its luxury hotels[3] including the only two 5-star hotels in the Hikkaduwa region (Riff Hotel[4] and Haritha Villas[5]).
Thiranagama is located by the Indian Ocean, 16km (10miles) north to Galle and 99km (62miles) south to Colombo. It is located between the tourist town of Hikkaduwa and Dodanduwa. Thiranagama is the upmarket area[6] [7] of the 24km (15miles) coastline of Hikkaduwa District.
In the 19th century, during the British Ceylon period, Hikkaduwa region was "the great resort of picnic parties from Galle"[8] (Galle was the largest city in southern Ceylon).
Thiranagama railway station is the 43rd station[9] of the Coastal Line linking Colombo to Matara. It is located 97.8km (60.8miles)[9] from Colombo station. Nine trains stop there daily.[10]
The largest school of Thiranagama is Bodhiraja Maha Vidyalaya with around 280 students.[11]
Thiranagama is bordered by one of the most expansive beaches in the South West of Sri Lanka. Extending over 3km (02miles), this wide beach is calm and a few quality restaurants.[12] There also are several surf spots there.
