A retired serial killer acts as a consultant for an author writing about murders.[1]
The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided To Write About A Serial Killer marks the English-language debut of director Karaçelik. It is produced by Sinan Eczacıbaşı, Scott Aharoni and Mustafa Kaymak for Cinegryphon Entertainment, with Wren Arthur and Steve Buscemi, who also stars, for Olive Productions plus Tolga Karaçelik, Alex Peace Power and Alihan Yalçındağ's May Productions.[2]
Principal photography started in New York in June 2023 with cinematographer Natalie Kingston.[3] The shoot lasted 22 days and was completed by August 2023.[4]
It had its world premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Festival on June 8, 2024, where it was named a runner-up for the Audience Award in the festival's Narrative competition.[5]
