Mihaaru previously faced closure threats by the Courts but the issues were sorted out at the Labour Tribunal.[7] [8] In 2017, the Criminal Court banned Mihaaru's journalists from covering trials after a report was published criticizing the justice system.[9] [10] Soon after though, Mihaaru's journos were unbanned.[11] In 2019, Mihaaru was nominated for all the categories of the 2018 Maldives Journalism Awards, where it won five.[12] In 2022, five journos received awards from the Maldives Journalism Awards.[13] In June of the same year, Mihaaru's journos were getting harassed at their office by a group of people who forcibly entered.[14] The group accused Mihaaru of publishing a fabricated report.
