The Astronomical Society of Malta is a non-profit organisation registered in Malta with the aim of promoting education and interest in astronomy.[1] The society plans various activities such as astronomical observations courses into basic astronomy for beginners as well as more advanced public lectures.[2] Some one-time events are also organised like the Space Week in 2019 when an American astronaut collaborated with ASM.[3] Some of these events occur annually, like observations of the Perseids[4] and the organisation's participation in Malta's Science in the City[5] [6] and KurżitàJiem.[7]
The Astronomical Society is also the parent organisation behind the main light pollution awareness group (LPAG) in Malta. The group voices complains to protect what little is left of Malta's dark sky.[8]
