The Age of Innocence is a greatest hits album by Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai. It was released by Universal and D Sound on March 14, 2003. The album features a selection of 30 songs from Tsai's early years with Universal, spanning her releases from 1999 to 2001.

Background and release

In March 1999, Tsai signed a contract with Universal.[1] Under the label, she released four studio albums: 1019 (1999),[2] Don't Stop (2000),[3] Show Your Love (2000),[4] and Lucky Number (2001).[5] These albums achieved commercial success in Taiwan, with sales exceeding 450,000 copies for 1019, 500,000 copies for Don't Stop,[6] 260,000 copies for Show Your Love,[7] and 150,000 copies for Lucky Number.[8]

On November 6, 2001, Universal released Tsai's first greatest hits compilation, Together.[9] On April 2, 2002, the label followed up with a remix album, Dance Collection.[10]

On July 23, 2002, Tsai signed with Sony.[11] However, on March 14, 2003, Universal released a second greatest hits compilation, The Age of Innocence, which included 30 tracks from her early years with the label. The album peaked at number 14 on the Taiwan's G-Music chart, marking its highest weekly ranking.[12]

Critical reception

Tencent Entertainment's music critic Shu Wa commented: "This double-CD compilation was released just seven days after the release of Magic, following Jolin Tsai's signing with Sony. The compilation features 30 tracks, nearly covering all of Tsai's works from her time with Universal. It marks the first instance of Tsai releasing a greatest hits album through her former label after signing with a new label."[13]
