Taungaeaka Explained

Taungaeaka is a Motu (small uninhabited island) and a place in the south of the Tabiteuea atoll in the Gilbert Islands of the island state Kiribati in the Pacific Ocean.[1] It belongs to the district South Tabiteuea. In 2017, it had 158 inhabitants.

Taungaeaka is located in the eastern reef area of Tabiteuea. It is divided by several deep bays that penetrate the Riffkrone from the north, from the sea side. The place of the same name is on the Lagoon side, in the south.[2] In the village there is a traditional Reunification House: Taungaeaka Maneaba.

With Tewai in the northwest, the place is through the 'Tewai Causeway dam. In the south there is a dam that leads over the neighboring Motu Nikutiri and Aranuka to the main town Buariki in the south (Buariki Causeways).
