Tabalong Regency is the most northerly of the regencies in the Indonesian province of South Kalimantan, on Borneo Island. It was created on 14 July 1965 by splitting off the former northern districts of North Hulu Sungai Regency. It has a land area of 3,553.36 km2, and had a population at the 2010 Census of 218,620[3] and 253,305 at the 2020 Census;[4] the official estimate as of mid-2023 was 262,631 (comprising 132,569 males and 130,062 females).[5] The administrative capital is the town of Tanjung. The Regency's motto is "Saraba Kawa" (versatile in Banjarese).

Administrative division

The Regency is divided into twelve districts (Indonesian: kecamatan), tabulated below with their areas and population totals from the 2010 Census,[6] and the 2020 Census,[7] together with the official estimates for mid-2023.[8] The table also includes the locations of the district administrative centres, the number of administrative villages in each district (a total of 121 rural desa and 10 urban kelurahan), and its postal codes.
