Subdivisions of Kyrgyzstan explained
Kyrgyzstan has three levels of local government. The top level is formed by the regions (Kirghiz; Kyrgyz: облус|translit=oblus) and the cities of republican significance. The regions are divided into districts (Kirghiz; Kyrgyz: район|translit=rayon|link=no) and cities of regional significance. The districts are divided into cities of district significance, urban-type settlements (Kirghiz; Kyrgyz: шаар тибиндеги посёлок|translit=shaar tibindegi posyolok|link=no) and village communities (Kirghiz; Kyrgyz: айыл аймагы|translit=ayyl aymagy|link=no).[1] [2] [3] [4]
