Steel City was formed under the name Pittsburgh Hotspurs in 2019.[2] Following a collaboration in 2021 with Arsenal FC of Pittsburgh, the club rebranded in early 2023, renaming themselves Steel City FC.[3]
The club's women's team, active in the United Women's Soccer, was founded in 2014.[2] [4] Ahead of the 2020 season, Steel City FC (women) merged with the Pittsburgh Hotspurs, playing in the Women's Premier Soccer League.[5]
