Square Gardens is a mixed use development under construction in Manchester, England. The first phase of the scheme will comprise 1,772 co-living units across three buildings, including a 45-storey, 139 m (456 ft) tall tower. It will also provide 17000square feet of commercial, leisure and retail space.[4] If fully constructed, the development will feature around 2,200 residential units in total across four buildings, which were designed by SimpsonHaugh.[5]
Once completed, the 45-storey tower will become the ninth-tallest building in Greater Manchester.
The planning application for four buildings of heights varying from 10 to 45 storeys was submitted to Manchester City Council in January 2020,[6] [7] with planning approval obtained in September 2020.[5]
Enabling works on site started in January 2022, with construction commencing in March 2022.[8] Installation of the buildings' façades started in May 2023.[9] Completion of phase one is scheduled for August 2024, with phase two expected in March 2025.[1]
The development will include a 3000square feet café and 14000square feet gym located within an amenity building which will be open to the public. Its landscaping proposals include the planting of 140 trees.[10]
