Sofia Firdaus (born 1992) is an Indian politician and a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Barabati-Cuttack. She is a member of the Indian National Congress.[1] [2] [3] She is the first woman from the Muslim community to get elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Odisha.[4]
Sofia hails from Cuttack and is the daughter of former Congress MLA Mohammed Moquim.[5] She married Sheikh Mairajul Haque. She got schooling from St. Joseph's Girl's High School, Cuttack and Ravenshaw Junior College. Later, she earned a Bachelor of Technology. in Civil Engineering at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, affiliated with KIIT University, Â Bhubaneswar in 2013. She also did an Executive General Management program at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore in 2022.[6] [7]
She was managing the Real estate business after her studies and was also the president of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (Credai) Bhubaneswar chapter.[8]
Sofia made her political debut from the Barabati-Cuttack Assembly constituency in the 2024 Odisha Legislative Assembly election defeating Purna Chandra Mahapatra of the Bharatiya Janata Party by a margin of 8,001 votes.
