Sina Doering (born 6 May 1999[1]), known professionally as Sina-Drums, is a German drummer living in London. In addition to her success as a YouTuber with over 1.6 million subscribers, she plays on several albums and collaborated with international stars.

Life and career

Sina-Drums was born into a musical family on 6 May 1999 in Marburg, Hesse, Germany. Sina's father, Michael Doering, works as a live and studio musician as well as a songwriter and producer under the stage name Mike Wilbury.[2] Her mother plays the piano and likes to sing, although she does not perform professionally.[3] At the age of 2, Sina accompanied her father for the first time[4] on the tour of his Beatles tribute band The Silver Beatles.[5] When Sina was six years old, her father recorded the children's musical A Toy Soldier in Love, in which she appeared as an actress in an advertising trailer for the first time.[6] Sina began playing drums in 2009 and took regular lessons at the Drummer's Inspiration drum school in Krefeld between 2009 and 2016.[7]

In 2013, Sina's father launched her YouTube channel and uploaded her first drum cover on the same day, in which she drummed to Metropolis Pt. 1 by Dream Theater. Her YouTube channel sina-drums, on which she presents over 500 videos, has more than 1.6 million subscribers and a total of over 670 million views (as of 23 October 2024).[8] With the channel, she attracted both German and international musical interest.[9] [10] [11] In 2017, Chicago founding member Daniel Seraphine described Sina-Drums as "awesome" in an interview regarding her drum cover of 25 or 6 to 4.[12]

After presenting more and more drum covers on her channel for a few years, she began working on her own project in 2015, bringing together young musicians from all over the world to record her own album. Lauren Isenberg, who is now known as Renforshort, was there among others. Sina-Drums released the result in 2016 via Rockwerk Records (label cooperative of the German Rock & Pop Musicians' Association[13]) under the name Chi Might.

From 2017 to March 2021, Sina-Drums was part of the hard rock band The Gäs.[14] With them she played, among others, as the opening act for Glenn Hughes and Manfred Mann's Earth Band.[15] While with The Gäs they released the album "Savage" in 2017.[16] Over time, Sina-Drums developed a reputation as a respected musician and played with well-known greats in music history. She was seen on German television on ZDF in "Gottschalks große 68er Show" by Thomas Gottschalk, performing as the drummer for the Scottish musician Donovan and his song Hurdy Gurdy Man.[17]

From 2017 to 2018, Sina-Drums completed an additional full-time intensive drum course at the Drummers Institute in Krefeld. At the same time, she worked on her second Chi Might album, which she released again on Rockwerk Records.

In 2019, Donovan produced a Brian Jones tribute album entitled "Joolz Jones & The Jukes", in which he hired Joolz Jones, Brian Jones' grandson,[18] as a singer and Sina-Drums as a drummer.[19] The COVID-19 pandemic followed and public appearances were rarely allowed, so she produced the album Chi Might III during this time, which was self-published in 2020.

In September 2020, Sina-Drums began studying Jazz & Pop[20] at ArtEZ in Arnhem in the Netherlands,[21] where she graduated in Jazz & Pop Drums on 10 June 2024 with a Bachelors degree.[22]

In 2020, Sina-Drums drummed for Der Ole on the song Durch die Zeit on the album of the same name.[23] Ian Paice, British drummer and founding member of the music group Deep Purple, discovered Sina-Drums in 2020, commenting on her drum cover version of Burn in his own YouTube video channel. In 2021 he produced a video in cooperation with Sina and the Japanese drummer Yoyoka Soma.[24]

Furthermore, in 2021, Sina-Drums was invited by Jim Peterik (e.g. Eye of the Tiger) to play the drums on his song Dear Life on the album "Tigress: Women Who Rock the World".[25] [26]

In 2021 and 2022, Sina-Drums was part of Rock the Opera's European tour,[27] [28] [29] [30] where she appeared with Joe Lynn Turner at the Vienna State Opera, among others.

After graduating from ArtEZ, Sina-Drums moved to London in 2024.[31]
