Shami Stovall (born July 18, 1986)[1] is an American science fiction and fantasy author best known for her fantasy young adult series The Frith Chronicles and the sequel series Astra Academy. The Astra Academy series books Academy Arcanist and Death Lord Arcanist were nominated for the Dragon Award in 2023 and 2024 respectively in the Best Young Adult / Middle Grade Novel category. [2]

Biography

Shami Stovall grew up in California's central valley with a single mother and little brother. Despite no one in her family having a degree higher than a GED, she put herself through college (earning a BA in History), and then continued on to law school where she obtained her Juris Doctor. Prior to becoming a full-time author she was a practicing lawyer in the California drug courts, a university professor, and taught autistic children. [3]

Writing

While predominantly a science fiction and fantasy author, Shami Stovall’s writing spans a variety of sungenres from young adult fantasy [4] to space opera [5] to urban fantasy murder mysteries[6] and litRPG[7] .
