"Shake the Hand of a Fool" is a song by written by American singer-songwriter Margie Singleton[1] and recorded by R&B singer Titus Turner, released as a non-album promotional single on Jamie Records in 1961.[2] Though Turner's original English-language recording failed to chart, the song would become a hit in France and French Belgium through a French-language adaption by Jil & Jan titled "Serre la main d'un fou" a year later by French musician Johnny Hallyday, released as a single by Philips Records that May.[3] [4] [5] Hallyday also covered the original English version as the opening track on his first foreign-language and English-language studio album "Sings America's Rockin' Hits" earlier in 1962 but was not released as a single nor charted.[6] [7] [8] Hallyday's version also re-entered the French charts in 2000 and peaked at Number 45.[9]
