Shahzaman Ali Khan (Punjabi and ; pronounced ʂɦaːɦzamːaːn əliː xɑːn; born 2002 or 2003)[1] is a Pakistani singer from Faisalabad, Pakistan. He is the son of the popular Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, as well as the grandson of Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan and grandnephew of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who is known as the "" ('King of Kings of Qawwali').
Shahzaman primarily performs Qawwali, but also performs classical music alongside his father. Shahzaman's vocals and style of singing has been greatly compared to that of his granduncle Nusrat, with him sometimes being referred to as "Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan 2.0".
Shahzaman had been singing ghazals in local events since he was young, but made his first proper musical debut to a sold-out O2 Arena in London during his father's campaign to raise awareness for the 2022 Pakistan floods.[2] This is when he officially joined his father's band.
Shahzaman's style of sargam and vocals has been heavily compared to that of a young Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. This was first noticed in 2023 during his father's USA Tour, where Shahzaman had a more up-front role and performed song excerpts solely. During a solo performance of the song "Kinna Sohna Tenu Rab ne Banaya, his rendition of the song was compared greatly to that of a young Nusrat.[3] [4] [5] Dan Qayyum, a Reuters journalist stated, "Maybe I'm getting overly excited but Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's son sounds like a very young Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the OG! Meet Shahzaman Fateh Ali Khan. What a time to be alive."[6]
