Shahkot (ur|{{Nastaliq|شاہ کوٹ), is a town and one of three tehsils in the Nankana Sahib District of Punjab, Pakistan. It is one the oldest cities of Pakistan.[2] It has a hill park which is being converted into a theme park. It also has Baba Nau Lakh Hazari Mizar which is visited by hundreds of people from different cities every year.[3] The people of Shahkot are very friendly. Every year a 'Mela' is held at Shahkot between 23 March to 27 March.

History

Shahkot roots back to 14th century, when it was known as TerrathGarh. It was named as Shahkot after the name of the famous Sufi,HazratMurad Shah. In 1960 it was declared a Town Committee. The town has two distinct spatial patterns the central area around theDarbar is radial, while the rest of the town is planned on Gridiron Pattern. Shahkot is a part of Indus basin that has gradually been filled upby alluvium brought by the rivers from the north. Where the river activities have ceased, the scars of depression have been filled up and thesurface has become somewhat leveled. The climate of the area is sub-humid. The general features are high summer temperature with hotdry winds and frequent dust storms. Mean annual rainfall is recorded to be 500 millimeters in the area. In May and June, the temperaturesrange from 38oC to 410C, with maximum rising to 480C in summer. The mean minimum temperature is 4.5o, which usually occurs inDecember. Shahkot is the one of the important TMA of district Nankana. Formely it was part of district Shiekhpura. After the declaration ofNankana district, this territory was shifted under the Jurisdiction of District Nanakana. After the implementation of Punjab Local GovernmentOrdinance 2001, it was given the status of TMA in 2001The DarbarNaulakhaHazari is located close to the hill and a natural pond is one of the major places of attraction for the citizens of the districtand the region. Central railway station is the main railway station of Shahkot built during the British region around the nineteenth century.The station is used to take people to all parts of Pakistan from Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Peshawar and many more cities andtowns of Pakistan by Rail
