Seventh federal electoral district of Guerrero explained
The seventh federal electoral district of Guerrero (Distrito electoral federal 07 de Guerrero) is one of the 300 electoral districts into which Mexico is divided for elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of eight such districts in the state of Guerrero.
It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative period by means of the first-past-the-post system. Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the fourth region.[1] [2]
District territory
Guerrero lost a congressional seat in the 2022 redistricting process. Under the new districting plan, which will be used for the 2024, 2027 and 2030 federal elections,[3] the seventh district covers six municipalities in the central part of the state:[4]
The district's head town (cabecera distrital), where results from individual polling stations are gathered together and collated, is the state capital, the city of Chilpancingo.[5]
Previous districting schemes
- 2017–2022Between 2017 and 2022, Guerrero was allocated nine electoral districts. The seventh district had its head town at Chilpancingo and it comprised four municipalities:[6]
- 2005–2017The 2005 districting plan assigned Guerrero nine districts. The seventh district's head town was at Chilpancingo and it covered five municipalities:[7]
- 1996–2005Under the 1996 districting plan, which allocated Guerrero ten districts, the seventh district had its head town at Chilpancingo and it covered five municipalities:[8] [9]
- 1978–1996The districting scheme in force from 1978 to 1996 was the result of the 1977 electoral reforms, which increased the number of single-member seats in the Chamber of Deputies from 196 to 300. Under that plan, Guerrero's district allocation rose from six to ten.[10] The newly restored seventh district's head town was at Acapulco and it covered a part of that city and the rural portion of its surrounding municipality.[11]
