Sematan (also known as Simatan) is a small town in Lundu District, Sarawak, Malaysia.[1] [2] It lies approximately 67.5km (41.9miles) west-north-west of the state capital Kuching,[3] which is a two-hour drive.[4]
Sematan is a fishing village looking out over the South China Sea. It has reasonably clean beaches, a promenade along the waterfront and a concrete pier into the sea. At the north end, there is a park celebrating early Malay fishermen in the Sematan area.[5] Accommodation in Sematan can be had at the Sematan Hotel.[6]
Climate
Sematan has a tropical rainforest climate (Af) with heavy to very heavy rainfall year-round and with extremely heavy rainfall in January and February.
Attractions and recreational spots
Telok Melano is located at the southern tip of Sarawak, a 15-minute drive away from the town of Sematan.[4] [7]
