Screamboat is an upcoming American slasher film directed by Steven LaMorte. It is a horror reimagining of Walt Disney's 1928 animated short film Steamboat Willie, starring Allison Pittel, Amy Schumacher, Jesse Posey, Jesse Kove, Rumi C Jean-Louis, Jarlath Conroy and Charles Edwin Powell, with David Howard Thornton as the titular character. It follows a group of New Yorkers who got stalked by a mischievous version of Steamboat Willie.
While The Walt Disney Company retains exclusive rights to the depictions of the character from their own franchise, Mickey's Steamboat Willie version went into the public domain on January 1, 2024. One day later, the film was announced.[1] [2]
Screamboat is scheduled to be theatrically released worldwide in January 2025.
Screamboat follows a group of New Yorkers on a late-night ferry ride that turns deadly when a mischievous mouse begins a rampage, targeting unsuspecting passengers. The unlikely crew must band together to thwart the murderous menace before their relaxing commute turns into a nightmare.
On January 1, 2024, the first animated short film starring Mickey Mouse, Steamboat Willie, entered into public domain. After the copyright lapsed, LaMorte began working on an then-untitled Steamboat Willie horror film. One day later, the film was announced with the first teaser. The official title, Screamboat, was officially revealed on April 8, 2024.[4] On June 10, the whole cast was revealed, including David Howard Thornton as the titular character.
Screamboat is scheduled to be theatrically released in January 2025.[5]
