Scott Ryan (actor) explained

Scott Ryan
Birth Date:12 May 1973
Nationality:Australian

Scott Ryan (born 12 May 1973) is an Australian actor and writer who wrote and starred in the FX series Mr Inbetween and the film The Magician, which he also directed.

Ryan grew up in Hallam and moved to Richmond at age 17. He began writing in his 20s and studied filmmaking at RMIT, self-funding 2003's The Magician with $3,000. Nash Edgerton became involved with Ryan after seeing The Magician at the St Kilda Film Festival, later producing a feature-length cut that saw further success in 2005.

Edgerton and Ryan pitched Mr Inbetween to various networks over the following years but faced rejection. In 2009, Ryan was cast in Hesher but ultimately lost the part to Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Ryan then worked for several years as a taxi driver in Echuca. Mr Inbetween finally began filming in 2017 after being picked up by FX Australia. The series entered limbo after FX ceased broadcasting in 2018, but funding was restored by the network's American counterpart. Upon release, the show was a success and quickly developed a cult following.[1]

At the 2018 AACTA Awards, Ryan won the Best New Talent award,[2] and was nominated for the Best Lead Actor in a Television Role. He was again nominated for Best Lead Actor in 2019, which he then won. Also in 2019, he won the Logie Award for Most Outstanding Actor.[3]

In 2020, he was signed to the talent agency CAA[4] after actress Helen Mirren and her husband, director Taylor Hackford, urged their Hollywood agent to watch the series who then offered to represent him.[5]

At the 2021 AACTA Awards, Ryan won Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama as well as Best Screenplay for the third and final season of Mr Inbetween.
