Sardar 2 is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language spy action thriller film directed by P. S. Mithran and produced by Prince Pictures. The follow-up sequel to Sardar (2022), Karthi reprises his dual roles alongside S. J. Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath and Rajisha Vijayan.

The film was officially announced in October 2022 under the official title, Sardar 2. Principal photography commenced in July 2024 at Chennai. The film has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography handled by George C. Williams and editing by Vijay Velukutty.

Production

Development and pre-production

After the success of Sardar in late 2022, P. S. Mithran announced the sequel to the film during a media event in Chennai. Officially announced with a promotional teaser, it was revealed that Karthi would reprise his roles as Agent Sardar Chandrabose and Vijay Prakash.[1] Reports of a potential beginning of the production continued through December 2023.[2] [3] The following May, it was reported that filming would commence that July and 40–percent would be shot in international arenas,[4] including Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.[5] A muhurat puja was held on 12 July at a film city in Chennai with the cast and crew. The project was funded by S. Lakshman Kumar's Prince Pictures, which also funded the original.[6] Siddharth Srinivas served as a co-producer. The company published stills of the puja the same day, revealing the film's cast and crew.[7]

Mithran began the pre-production process by May 2024. He co-wrote the film's script along with Rathna Kumar.[8] Mithran further chose cinematographer George C. Williams, stunt choreographer Dillip Subbarayan, production designer Rajeevan Nambiar and editor Vijay Velukutty for the film's technical crew members.[9] In August 2023, the film was reported to have music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, and not G. V. Prakash Kumar who composed for the predecessor. Yuvan's inclusion in the film was confirmed by the production house the following July.[10] [11]

Filming

Principal photography began with the first schedule on 15 July 2024 at Prasad Labs in Chennai. On the third day of filming, while shooting an action sequence, stuntman Ezhumalai fell down twenty meters and died, halting the filming.[12]

Music

The music and background score is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, in his seventh collaboration with Karthi and returning to collaborate with Mithran for the third time after Irumbu Thirai (2018) and Hero (2019).
