Sara Gama (born 27 March 1989) is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Serie A club Juventus FC, which she captains, and the Italy national team.
Gama has also played for PSG of Division 1 Féminine, UPC Tavagnacco[1] and Calcio Chiasiellis of Serie A,[2] [3] as well as American W-League team Pali Blues.[4]
She is a member of the Italian national team,[5] and took part in the 2009 European Championship.[6] As an Under-19 international she won the 2008 U-19 European Championship serving as the team's captain, and was named the tournament's MVP.[7]
Gama made her senior debut for the Italy women's national football team in June 2006, in a 2–1 defeat by Ukraine in qualifying for the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup.[8]
National coach Antonio Cabrini named Gama in his selection for UEFA Women's Euro 2013 in Sweden.[9]
Despite being captain, Gama was not called up to the Italy squad for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, with the coach wanting to include more younger players.[10]
