The company was founded in 1911 by Greek entrepreneur Louis Santikos and was owned and operated by his son, John L. Santikos,[1] until his death in 2014. In 2015, as part of his estate, Santikos Entertainment was donated to the San Antonio Area Foundation.[2]

With the acquisition, Santikos became the eighth largest theater chain in North America, with 377 screens in states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.[4]
