was a Japanese actor active from 1936 to 1977. A popular star of the Shōchiku film studios,[3] he is best known for his appearances in the films of Yasujirō Ozu, Keisuke Kinoshita, Heinosuke Gosho and Hiroshi Shimizu.[4]
