Name

The municipality (originally the parish) is named after an old name for the area, Sandeid (Norse, Old: Sandaeið). The first element is the plural genitive case of the word which means "sand". The last element is which means "isthmus". Thus it is the sandy area at the isthmus, referring to the isthmus between Ølensjøen and Sandeid.[3]

Government

During its existence, this municipality was governed by a municipal council of directly elected representatives. The mayor was indirectly elected by a vote of the municipal council.[4]
