In Sanskrit, Sameera or Samira (Sanskrit: समीरः|translit=samīraḥ|translit-std=IAST) is a feminine given-name, meaning "breeze, wind,"[1] or "Vāyu, the wind deity".[2] Many anglicize their name to Samīr or Sameer. In Arabic, the feminine name is derived from the root s-m-r ("to spend the night in talking"),[3] ultimately meaning "night-companion",[4] "entertaining companion",[5] "the one with lively conversation".[6] The masculine version of this name is Samir.
